Much of the proverbs personify two women: who & why?

I’ve been stuck on this for a while now. Why women? Is Solmon really talking about evil women and adultery? What is his deal and what can I learn from this? Here are my thoughts.

Two women are personified in the book of Proverbs.

  1. Lady wisdom
  2. Woman Folly/the adulterous or seductive woman

King Solomon teaches his son(s) wisdom and life lessons in much of this book of the Bible. What better way to teach important lessons than through story telling or personification. Jesus used parables to teach those who followed Him. Solmon used these little bytes of wisdom.

Lady Wisdom

Lady wisdom calls loudly from the top of the wall and at the city gate. I love this visual- wisdom and truth are available to us all. God does not hide Himself, and His word will never fade or change. Wisdom and truth are right in front of us, plain and simple.

Woman Folly

However, the “adulterous, seductive” woman of sin and evil lurks all around us and calls out for attention as well. Sometimes she yells louder than truth. But often she only has to whisper her lies.

Why?

I wonder why Solomon used women to teach these lessons. King David and Bathsheba were Solomon’s parents, and as far as we know, Bathsheba was a godly woman. However, Solmon’s 700 wives and 300 concubines are proof that he had issues with women. Obviously, something got out of control for him.

He wanted more for his son(s).

Take away for today?

Will we seek, learn, teach, strive for Truth and Wisdom? Or will we fall into the trap of the quiet seductive lies of Satan?

Truly, it’s easy to make the choice, it’s much harder to take the steps. Or, in some cases, to turn around and run the other way.

Today, let’s just take one step at a time and be wary of who or what captures our attention. 👣
