Today’s little bit of wisdom & encouragement

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.
Proverbs 3:7-8 NIV
Never let yourself think that you are wiser than you are; simply obey the LORD and refuse to do wrong. If you do, it will be like good medicine, healing your wounds and easing your pains.
Proverbs 3:7-8 Good News Bible

I know I’ve said this before, but these proverbs make it sound so easy. I suppose the quick little sayings are easy to memorize and to say, but, boy, is this little proverb not easy to do.

Having said that, we know it’s truth though, don’t we?

Don’t think so highly of yourself. Don’t think you know it all.
Instead, obey the Lord and refuse to do wrong.

It may not be easy to do, but thankfully God gives us the new day. Each day is a gift. Each day is another chance.

So, today, let’s instead focus on obeying God and running from evil.

Does this mean our pain will disappear? Does this mean we won’t get sick? Is it truly healing to trust and obey God?

Yes, but not in the sense that many think or expect. Walking in God’s ways and removing evil and temptation from our lives does have real health benefits. But more than that, the Lord gives peace and strength that we cannot get anywhere else. Think about it: not following God and not trusting Him for what we need, leads to more anxiety and stress. More anxiety and stress lead to more and more and more until our bodies and our minds are sick and tired.

God’s way leads to peace, joy, and rest. Healing.

"I am leaving you with a gift- peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid.
John 14:27 NLT

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:31 NIV

  1. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.

I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
    John 10:8-10
