In the midst of a busy week, can I just take a moment and share my favorite verse with you all?
This particular verse plays in my head at night sometimes, which is a good thing, and why we should seek to know and memorize scripture. Otherwise, nasty, self-deprecating thoughts or other evil will fill its place. And that is not helpful in an already worried and stressed-out world.
This verse is from Psalm 28 written by King David- a warrior and beloved king who was often afraid, lonely, and anxious. Sound familiar? What did David do when he felt that way? He called upon the Lord, the One who is his strength and his shield.
You see, David isn’t singing this verse after God did something amazing to save him. If you read the rest of the psalm, you will see David crying for help- “don’t turn away from me,” “hear my cry for help,” “don’t drag me away with the wicked.”
This is a song and a prayer of an anxious king, a warrior, a husband, a father, and a friend. David calls for help to the only One who can truly save him.
Then what does David do in the same song?
He claims it. He knows God will save him. He knows that God is for him. He knows that God is present and faithful.
Today, ask for what you need. Tell Him how you feel. Share your worries, your anxieties, and your fears.
Then claim God’s goodness and faithfulness to you. He has been faithful. He will be faithful. Know it. Claim it. Say it, and believe it.
The LORD is my strength and my shield. My heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.
