I lift up my eyes to the mountains

If Monday is already not treating you well . . . or if you tend to worry or find yourself spiraling with anxiety today, may these words bring you comfort. Just two short verses with so much power. Maybe take a moment to memorize them and hold them close throughout the day,

I lift up my eyes to the mountains- where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:1-2

Psalm 121 is a song of ascents. Pilgrims making their way to Jerusalem for one of the feasts required of them in Old Testament times would sing this song somewhere along that journey.

We, too, are pilgrims journeying through life. Do you ever feel a little lost on that journey or like you walk it alone? Do you worry about tripping and falling, and wonder who will be there to help you if you do?

Oh, does this song remind us! Where does our help come from?

It does not come from the mountains. Although when we look at the mountains are we not reminded of God’s strength and power? Of His promises? His faithfulness?

The Lord is greater the mountains. He is more powerful than anything in creation. He created it all with His fingers and a word from His mouth. He holds it all together in the palm of His hand.

And yet He cares about you.

As we journey through this broken life, we will stumble. We will catch our feet on something painful, like that pilgrim on his journey. But we can lift our eyes to the mountains and know that HE is bigger and stronger and more powerful than anything we face. And we never walk our journey alone.

My friend, be reminded today that He loves you and He wants you to keep your eyes up and on Him.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains- where does my help come from?
